Week 6 – Road Warrior
8:00 a.m. Friday- I was a substitute teacher at Mt. Vernon High School. Every football player that was in my class was forced to look at the football picks on Southern Illinois Sports Connection. I made it very clear that I was the only one who does weekly picks that picked them to beat Carbondale.
My Class 1A Pick ‘Em
I made these predictions at the start of the Regionals….The 32 Regional Sites and their predicted champions. I will update later to reflect the finals. All teams who have lost prior to the final, or in the final, are struck through. Champions will be marked/kept in BOLD. Abingdon–Abingdon Brimfield–Brimfield Liberty–Routt Mt. Sterling Brown County–Brown County [...]
February Fever….The Boys Side 1A
First and foremost, the 1A AND 2A Super-Sectionals will be played back at their home, the SIU Arena in Carbondale. This decision by the IHSA to move the State Quarterfinals (that’s what the Supers are now) of the deep south back to SIU Arena was welcome by fans and teams with great thrill, as well [...]
February Fever……The Girls Side
The first symptom of that great illness we like to call “March Madness” (Yes, I know, the NCAA and the IHSA both own the rights to that little saying, so I’m giving credit where credit is due, I think) is what most of us call “February Fever”. The Fever kicked off last week, with the [...]
I’m Baaaaaaack!
After a long hiatus from blogging, I have decided to pick this back up. Yes, the name of my blog is clearly aimed towards golf, but I’m not JUST a golf fan, but a fan of most all sports at all levels. So, everyday, sometimes multiple times a day, I will be talking about various [...]
93rd PGA Championship Wrap-Up
Home Sweet Home! Although a very fun and exciting trip, nothing beats hitting Exit 71 on I-57. Keegan Bradley defeated Jason Dufner in a 3-hole aggregate playoff to hoist the Wanamaker Trophy Sunday evening at Atlanta Athletic Club. It looked as if Bradley had thrown his chances out the window (or better fitting into the [...]
Moving Day Wrap Up
Every Saturday on t he PGA Tour is known as moving day, and it lived up to it’s name yesterday. David Toms (2001 PGA Champ) and Phil Mickelson (2005 PGA Champ) both made huge moves to put themselves into contention to hoist their second Wanamaker Trophy. Toms and Mickelson both played in the final group [...]
Round 2 – More Questions Than Answers
Friday’s 2nd round of the 2011 PGA Championship left many people, fans and media alike, with too many questions and not enough answers. First off, the cut was +4 (144) with 75 players making the cut, one of those players is a PGA Club Professional, Mike Small, head golf coach at the University of Illinois. [...]
Round 1 Is In the Books
Thursday was, needless to say, a very, very long day. On top of being at the tournament for 12 hours, I logged 11.5 miles on foot, while carrying about 30 pounds of camera gear. However, after looking through the images I captured today, it was a total win. Those of you in the golf world [...]
Halfway Though Day 1
Here is a quick look at where I will be spending the majority of my time at AAC, besides being on the course itself. The media center seats 250 plus change. Every work station has it’s own power strip and enough room to stack the piles of transcripts we get throughout the day of the [...]
