Transitioning Tuesday...
Box scores of basketball games have hit the newspapers as the prep basketball season is underway for the girls. As we get cooler weather, we continue to wind down the fall sports season at the prep level. College basketball fans are getting a huge dose this current 24 hours with ESPN showing all kinds of games at different times. We have mentioned several times that we are transitioning in many ways in different things this time of year and the sports world is no different.
Prep Report
- Du Quoin will be at Columbia at 1PM on Saturday.
- Breese Mater Dei, Cahokia, and East St. Louis are teams on the fringe of our area will also be on the road Saturday.
- It is nice to see basketball box scores in the paper this morning. The first night of high school girls basketball was last night.
- The State Finals for Girls swimming and diving will be held this weekend in Evanston, IL.
College Sports
- ESPN is currently on their run with college basketball games that started at midnight and will end with Kentucky at North Carolina.
- FOX sports has pulled out of bidding for the 4 BCS football bowl games. It looks like ESPN will be in showing those in the future.
Pro Sports
- As I predicted, Albert Pujols is your NL MVP. This is the 2nd time he has won the award.
- The SEC is after Mark Cuban, owner of the Mavs, for insider trading. Could this be a reason as to why the MLB won't let him own the Cubs?
- For those NBA fans this won't come as a shock, Tracy McGrady of the Rockets has reinjured his knee. The injury prone star just can't get through a season without being hurt.
- "Wide right"...words that stick in the minds of Buffalo Bills fans as they missed a FG last night in losing to the Browns.
As I checked out the TV this morning, it was kind of different to see a college basketball game at 9AM. That is an early wake up call. I'm out.
